Periodontal treatment

Maintaining healthy gums that are pale pink, smooth and firm is very important. Without the thorough removal of plaque from around and under the gum line it can harden and become impossible to remove with normal brushing and flossing. This can lead to infection and to a common gum disease called Periodontitis.periodontal treatment

Periodontitis is an inflammatory disease caused by bacterial infection. If left untreated Periodontal Disease may lead to tooth loss in adults. It causes the gums to pull away from the teeth and is ccharacterizedby red and swollen gums and even bleeding while brushing or chewing.

Periodontitis, often been labeled the silent disease due to the fact that most people are unaware that they have the condition, can be recognized in it’s infancy stages which will can halt any further deterioration of the gums and bone and prevent tooth loss.

Ask yourself these simple questions in relation to your gums:

Are your gums red, swollen or tender?
Do your gums bleed when you brush or floss your teeth?
Do you have sores in your mouth?
Do you suffer from bad breath?
Are your gums receding? Have they pulled away from your teeth?
Do your teeth appear longer than they have in the past?
Are there spaces developing between your teeth?
Do you have a constant bad taste in your mouth?
Are your teeth more sensitive than usual?
Are any of your teeth loose?
Is there any change in the way your teeth fit together when you bite?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, we recommend that you visit us at the Herman Dental Clinic as soon as possible for a thorough periodontal examination and, if required, for periodontal treatment.
