There are many reasons why Dr Herman may suggest your tooth needs to be crowned.

  • Fractured tooth
  • Over ¾ of the surface of your tooth is filled
  • Your tooth has been root-filled.

Each of these possibilities means that the strength of your tooth has been compromised, so the best way to strengthen your tooth is to build a cap over it. By taking a small section of filling or tooth around the tooth and then taking an impression of this preparation. Dr Herman can then have our expert laboratory make a crown of porcelain fused to metal in the exact colour of your tooth. If your tooth is root-filled it will be necessary to also make a post or core of the tooth. This will rebuild the centre of the tooth which has been filled with a sterile rubber material because of infection.
